Mike “Nerfknight” Smith is a miniature painter from Huntsville, Alabama, whose work focuses on 28–32mm centerpiece models and specialized squads designed to stand out both on the tabletop and in display. Known for blending traditional brushwork with modern airbrushing, his painting style emphasizes clean, high-contrast edge highlights and volumetric lighting, giving each miniature a strong sense of depth and presence.

While much of Mike’s commission portfolio centers on mechanized power armor and sci-fi forces, his true artistic passion lies in rendering organic textures, monsters, and flesh tones. He thrives on collaborating directly with clients to translate unusual ideas and unconventional color schemes into cohesive, visually striking armies.

Mike’s artistic foundation is built on both formal and professional experience. A Golden Demon winner in 2005, he also studied Art & Design, trained in classical miniature painting techniques during his time as a Games Workshop employee, and has continued refining his craft through masterclass instruction with industry-leading painters at conventions.

Outside the studio, Mike is an enthusiastic board and skirmish gamer who values being deeply involved in the tabletop community. Whether painting a single centerpiece model or a full themed detachment—such as his work on a Necron C’tan Shard of the Void Dragon and a custom Tau Farsight Enclaves force—Mike’s goal is always the same: bring imaginative ideas to life. Looking ahead, he hopes to expand into teaching painting techniques, helping other hobbyists grow their skills and confidence.
